| July 17, 2014 9:00 PM

The Kootenai Health Foundation announced the receipt of a $4,500 grant from the Ironman Foundation to support the Safe Kids Kootenai County traumatic injury prevention program.

As a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to eliminating unintentional injury and death to children, Safe Kids Kootenai County's goal is to reduce the number of child injuries and deaths in our community by providing year-round injury prevention programming to reach and serve as many children and families as possible.

Through collaboration with area partners, Safe Kids provides outreach and education to supply parents, grandparents and caregivers with information to help keep kids safe. The program is facilitated through Kootenai Health's Trauma Services with an Injury Prevention Coordinator fully dedicated to manage the program.

In conjunction with the 2014 Ironman Coeur d'Alene event, the Ironman Foundation Community Fund distributed a total of $70,000 in grant donations to local nonprofit groups in the Coeur d'Alene community which have a volunteerism component to their organizations.

Since the first Ironman Coeur d'Alene event in 2003, donations totaling $575,000 have been provided by the Ironman Foundation to support local nonprofits.
