Dorothy Norma Varner, 93

Dorothy Norma Varner, 93, of Van Nuys, Calif., passed away July 13, 2014, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Panorama City, Calif.

Dorothy was born September 27, 1920, in Minnesota to Frank Butler and Hattie Vasak Butler. She grew up in Meadow Lands, Minn., where she attended Meadow Lands High School, graduating in 1938.

While in her early twenties, Dorothy moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, with her family. She met Russell Varner in Chicago while roller skating in 1945, and they were later married on July 9, 1948. They moved to California in 1953, where they raised their family.

Dorothy enjoyed sewing, baking bread, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hattie; and two sisters: Betty and Margie. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Russell, of the family home in Van Nuys, Calif., and one daughter, Nancy Koch, of Van Nuys, Calif.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bell Tower Funeral Home, and you may view her on-line memorial at www.belltowerfuneralhome.com.
