HAYDEN - A limited number of tickets are available for "Tails at Twilight: Feast in the Field," the Kootenai Humane Society's main fundraiser.

Organizers have extended the ticket purchase deadline from July 15 to July 16. After today, tickets will not be available.

The ninth annual Tails at Twilight will be held from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Rosenberger Ranch. Guests can expect an elegant outdoor dinner catered by The Coeur d'Alene Resort, live entertainment by the Border Patrol band and a chance to win several raffle prizes.

One prize is a trip to Hollywood to see "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." The package includes a flight for four on a private plane, tickets to the show, a two-night hotel stay and the opportunity to take part in a Wings of Rescue rescue flight. Wings of Rescue is an all-volunteer organization that flies canines from overcrowded and high-kill shelters to locations where they can find new homes.

"As with any auction-type fundraiser, we just need unique items and attendees," KHS director of development Vicky Nelson told The Press.

The emcee of the evening will be KXLY Good Morning America anchor Mark Peterson. Marty Becker, "America's Veterinarian," will make a special guest appearance. Guests can also play "cow chip bingo" and win as much as $5,000.

"One of the highly anticipated experiences of Tails at Twilight has always been its location," Nelson said. "This year, Ron and Shelley Rosenberger have graciously offered their Hayden cattle ranch for a truly unique outdoor setting."

Nelson said her favorite part of Tails is the literal tails that will be seen as dusk settles.

"The sight of 'dogs at sunset' or 'tails at twilight' is truly heartwarming," she said. "Many of our adoptable residents will be joining the event to strut their stuff."

KHS is a nonprofit that depends entirely on grants, fundraisers, donations and income from its adoption center and thrift stores. It is a no-kill shelter that works toward ending animal abuse by providing resources, training, programs and education for better pet care and ownership. The shelter currently has 40 dogs and 40 cats available for adoption.

Tickets to Tails at Twilight are $100 each and are available online at www.kootenaihumanesociety.com or by calling 819-2812.
