KENT, Wash. - Connor Cardinel struck out five in a complete-game two-hitter, helping the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen AA team beat Bellevue Honda 7-0 in the opening game of pool play in the Baden Northwest Invitational wood bat tournament Tuesday at Kent Memorial Park.

"Connor was really efficient with his pitches," Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "It was good for us, especially in a tournament like this where we'd like to bring him back to start another game."

Gibson Green and Stephen Vaudreuil drove in two runs each and Devin Kluss scored two runs for Coeur d'Alene (16-21), which is idle today, then faces the Seattle Dodgers on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Newport High.

"Overall, from top to bottom, I thought we hit the ball really well," Clanton said. "We hit very well with runners in scoring position, which was good to see after getting on a bus for five hours. It's always nice to get the first one in a tournament like this against some good competition."
