National touring artist Kalai to perform in Cd'A

| July 15, 2014 9:00 PM

National touring singer-songwriter and guitarist, Kalai, will perform Wednesday in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

Kalai will headline during Live After 5, an all-ages, family-friendly event that takes place Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m. on the corner of Sixth Street and Sherman Avenue. Kosh will open the Wednesday show, performing from 5-5:45 p.m.

Admission is $3 and free for children ages 12 years and younger.

Kalai was born in Hawaii, raised in Alaska and based in Utah. His work is promoted as "urban vintage," with a musical range as vast as his origins.

Kalai has performed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Extra."

"He will overfeed your senses. He rocks vocal tambour, is often compared to Cat Stevens, with powered control likened to John Legend, with uncanny, no comparison finger-style guitar," states a bio provided by organizers of the Coeur d'Alene performance. "...His writing is an acoustic medley of '70s styling with a modern edge that ends up sounding like the future."

Live After 5 features food vendors, a beer garden, and other local merchants on a large, comfortable grass setting. The 2014 entertainment lineup includes only regional and national touring musicians.

Local sponsors subsidize the cost of the concerts, bringing the ticket prices down to $3 instead of the normal ticket price of $20 or more to see many of the bands booked.

Remaining Live After 5 acts for 2014:

* July 23 Jeremy Serwer/Douglas Cameron

* July 30 The Rub

* Aug. 8 Sammy Eubanks

* Aug. 13 The Maw Band

* Aug. 20 The Rhythm Dawgs
