SHOOTING: Know your target

| July 11, 2014 9:00 PM

According to the news report on July 9 on Channel 2, the dog that was shot was NOT a pit bull. The pictures showed a black labrador retriever. There is no resemblance to a pit bull, not even close.

Perhaps this needs to be looked at a little closer. It is very important to identify your target properly prior to pulling the trigger. This is most interesting. If a citizen made this error what would happen to him or her? It also appeared that the window was rolled up most of the way so the black lab couldn’t have gotten to the officer anyway.

I respect and appreciate what our police do for us. We all make errors in judgment. Some own their mistakes, others make excuses. What will happen here? There are very obvious differences between a black lab and a pit bull. Thank you for what you do. Perhaps we could be a little more aware of the lives we choose to take.
