Jack D. Carpenter, 75

| July 10, 2014 12:54 PM

Jack D. Carpenter, 75, of Blanchard, Idaho, passed away July 6, 2014, at his home in Blanchard.

Jack was born on May 7, 1939, one of nine children of Alfa Ray Carpenter and Jennie Marie Trapp Carpenter in Nevada, Missouri. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1957.

Jack married Barbara Parsons of Nevada, Mo., on June 17, 1956. They moved to Baker, Ore., in 1958, and Jack worked for his brother, Ray Carpenter, in Ray's diesel shop. Later, Jack and Barbara moved to Pendleton, Ore., and he went to work for Woodpecker Truck. After leaving there, Jack went to work for D.S.U. Truck Shop.

Jack moved to Blanchard in 1982 and worked for Western States Equipment Truck Shop in Spokane, Wash. In 1985, Jack started his own diesel shop, known as Jack’s Mobile Diesel Service. He was well known in the area for his expert mechanical skills, and as a 'go to' guy for information. Mechanic work was his main trade, but he was also a “Jack of all trades.”

Jack loved to fish and do things around the home. He also enjoyed family get-togethers.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Alvin Carpenter (Tammy), of Spirit Lake, Idaho; sister, Bonnie DeVore, of Mountain Home, Ark., two granddaughters: Lisa Bergener, of Georgia, and Tamra Bird, of Idaho; and five great-grandchildren.

There is no memorial at Jack's request; however, he did ask for a family BBQ, in his memory, to take place at a later date. Those who wish to make a donation in Jack's memory may send it to: Bonner Community Hospice, 520 N. Third Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho, 84864. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
