Shooting reported in Sandpoint

SANDPOINT - An individual was reported shot late Tuesday night near Bonner General Health in Sandpoint.

According to bystanders at the scene, the individual may have threatened law enforcement with a knife prior to the shooting.

The age, gender and identity of the person - or any of the details surrounding the incident - were being withheld because the shooting, which happened about 9:30 p.m., was still under investigation.

All Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler would confirm was that there had been an officer-involved shooting near the hospital.

Law enforcement cordoned off the street near the intersection of Second Avenue and Alder Street after the shooting, later expanding the scene to encompass the surrounding parking lots.

The condition of the suspect is unknown, and law enforcement declined to provide further details on the shooting.
