Coeur d'Alene, Prairie split in Wood Bat Classic

Colby Kennedy struck out six in a complete game win, leading the Coeur d'Alene "AA" Lumbermen past the Tri County Vandals 3-1 in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat baseball tournament on Saturday at Thorco Field in Coeur d'Alene.

"It was good for Colby and his confidence moving forward," Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "It was good for our kids moving forward to get that win."

Earlier in the day, Coeur d'Alene lost to the Gallatin Valley (Mont.) Outlaws 9-1. Gibson Green had a sacrifice fly against the Outlaws for Coeur d'Alene (14-20), which concludes pool play tonight at 7 p.m. against Spirit Lake at Thorco Field.

POST FALLS

The Prairie Cardinals "AA" team defeated the Saint Albert Cardinals 9-1 before falling 7-4 to defending state champion Idaho Falls 7-4 at Post Falls High to finish second in the Post Falls pod.

"It was a well-played game on our part," Prairie coach Ron Mackie said of the Saint Albert game. "Everything just clicked for us in that game."

James Prockish allowed four hits in the complete game win in the first game for Prairie (16-17), which faces the second seed out of the Rogers pod tonight at 6 at Rogers High in Spokane.
