BOISE (AP) - A transient was hospitalized in Boise after apparently falling into a hole dug by a company doing sewer work.

Ada County officials say the man was walking with a friend just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when he fell into the hole, which was about 10 feet deep. His friend called 911.

Boise firefighters lowered a ladder into the hole and the man was able to climb out. KTVB-TV reports he was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday morning.

Officers say the hole was clearly marked with cones and caution tape.

Police say the man, a local transient in his 50s, is expected to recover from his injuries.
