Helpers sought for July 9 trail project

| July 3, 2014 9:00 PM

The Idaho Trails Association is looking for a few good volunteers to help out on a one-day project in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest on July 9.

The association and volunteers will be constructing a puncheon walkway to go over a bog hole about a mile from the summit of Grouse Mountain.

When completed, the bridge will help make hiker access easier, safer and decrease negative effects on the landscape.

Volunteers will enjoy a moderately strenuous 3 mile hike on the Grouse Mountain Trail through lush forests with filtered views to get to the project site. Afterward a short climb to a great outlook will provide stunning panoramas as a reward, said Phil Hough, Idaho Trails Association project leader.

"We like to combine some moderately hard work with some moderately hard hiking and some killer views," Hough said.

More details as well as a sign-up form can be found on the Idaho Trails Association website at: www.IdahoTrailsAssociation.org. Contact Phil Hough: (208) 946-9127.
