Prairie takes two from Orofino

| July 2, 2014 9:00 PM

POST FALLS - Logan Bruner struck out six over six innings of a combined two-hit shutout for the Prairie Cardinals Class AA team in a 4-0 win against the Orofino Merchants Class A team in the first game of a nonleague American Legion baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Post Falls High.

Prairie also defeated Orofino 8-5 in the nightcap, improving to 13-16.

"It was another solid performance on the mound by Logan in the first game," Prairie coach Ron Mackie said. "We played good defense in that game. They had a good pitcher on the mound as well, and we just kind of battled back and forth and put the runs across when they weren't."

Kris Jackson drove in two runs in the second game for Prairie, which opens the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Wood Bat Classic on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. by hosting the Sandpoint Lakers at Post Falls High.
