Chiefs extend Nachbaur contract through 2016-17

SPOKANE - Spokane Chiefs head coach Don Nachbaur has signed a two-year contract extension, the team announced. With the extension added to Nachbaur's previous contract, he is now signed with Spokane through the 2016-17 season.

"I'm exceptionally grateful to Bobby (Brett), Tim (Speltz), and the Chiefs management from top to bottom for the opportunity to extend my tenure with the Spokane Chiefs," Nachbaur said. "I am excited to continue developing our players and work with the rest of our hockey staff to provide a quality team for our loyal and deserving fans.

"I enjoy coaching in Spokane and being part of the Spokane community."

Nachbaur, the 11th head coach in Chiefs' franchise history, will enter his fifth season with the Chiefs - and 16th in the WHL - with the upcoming 2014-15 season. Currently with 598 career coaching victories, he could become just the fourth WHL head coach to eclipse the 600-win mark, joining Ken Hodge (742), Lorne Molleken (603), and Don Hay (609). Hay, now with the Kamloops Blazers, is the only active WHL coach ahead of Nachbaur in career wins.
