Ethel "Louise" Powell Elliot Luce

| July 2, 2014 1:15 PM

Ethel "Louise" Powell Elliot Luce, 91, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 30, 2014.

Louise was born February 23, 1923, in Preston, Idaho, to Morrell Anderson Powell and Florence Ethel Salmon. She was raised in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Moscow, Idaho, before settling in Lapwai, Idaho. Lousie graduated from Lapwai High School in 1939 and married Josh Elliot shortly thereafter. They lived in Lapwai, and Lewiston, Idaho/Clarkston, Wash., while raising three children.

In the early 1960's, Louise moved to Spokane, Wash., where she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ezra Ward. She later worked for several other dentists, and as a dental assistant at the state hospital in Medical Lake. Louise then became an instructor at Spokane Community College.

In 1967, Louise met and married Edwin Leroy Luce. They resided on the South Hill in Spokane in a round house they built themselves. In 2004, upon Ed's passing, Louise moved back to Idaho.

Louise was a active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many callings as Relief Society teacher, bishop's secretary, and young woman's leader. She also spent many hours working in the family history center and in the temple. Louise and Ed, and their good friends the Flemmings, spent several years traveling once a month to work in the Seattle Temple as Special Proxies for a week at a time.

Louise loved gardening and being outdoors. In addition to building a house, she and Ed built their very own catamaran and camper. They spent many summers at Deer Lake, Wash., swimming, camping, and fishing.

But Louise's greatest love of all was her family.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; parents, Morrell and Florence; former husband, Gordon "Josh" Elliot; daughter, Judith Ann Elliot; and twins, James and John Elliot, who died at birth.

She is survived by two children, Sandra Louise Simon, of Post Falls, Idaho; and Kenneth Gordon Elliot (Melody), of Phoenix, Ariz., stepson, Jerry Luce (Judy), of Spokane, Wash., and their children and grandchildren; three grandchildren: Louise Zimmerman, of Post Falls, Ben Zimmerman, of Coeur d'Alene, and Melina of Phoenix; seven great-grandchildren: Mikel Buffaloe (Jamie), Marisa Black (Nathan), Josef Buffaloe, Krisi Buffaloe, Caila Zimmerman, Jessica Zimmerman, and Izabella Zimmerman; and great-great-grandson, Luca Buffaloe.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 7, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1670 N. McGuire Road, Post Falls, Idaho. Viewing will be at 2 p.m. Bell Tower Funeral Home of Post Falls has been entrusted with arrangements.
