LEGION BASEBALL: Wrotenbery sparks Prairie

| July 1, 2014 9:00 PM

POST FALLS - Blake Wrotenbery sparked two big innings with a leadoff triple and home run, and the Prairie Cardinals class AA team rolled to a 15-5 win over the Spokane Cannons on Monday at Post Falls High.

Wrotenbery's triple led to a six-run second inning, and his leadoff homer was the first of seven runs in the third inning.

A pinch-hit home run from Treavor Hammell put the Cardinals ahead 15-5 in the fifth, ending the game via the 10-run rule.

"Our bats were hot today, and we continue to have guys contributing off the bench," coach Ron Mackie said.

Dalton Strong threw four innings to earn his first victory of the season for Prairie (11-16), which hosts Orofino today in a doubleheader at Post Falls High School.

COEUR d'ALENE - Devin Kluss connected on a two-run homer in the sixth inning for the Lumbermen, who fell to the Club Spokane Dodgers 18-and-under team in nonleague play at Thorco Field.

"We gave up our runs in a different fashion," Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "We walked in two runs in the fourth, that was kind of a stinger, because we had them where we wanted them."

Branson Trube hit a two-run homer in the third for the Dodgers, in the game played with wood bats.

"We played good against a very tough team, but we left some runners on base, and against a good team you have to cash in on opportunities like that," Clanton said.

Coeur d'Alene (10-18) plays host to Lewis-Clark on Wednesday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Thorco Field.
