Eugene H. Barker, 89

Gene was born July 14, 1924, in Sheridan, Wyo., to William Barker and Frances Hoffman Barker. He was raised in Wyoming, and prior to WWII worked at several jobs throughout the Northwest. 

After Pearl Harbor, Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a medic in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He was discharged in 1946, and returned home to Sheridan where he met and married Edith Erickson, RN. Gene graduated from Denver University in 1950. He was then recalled to active duty, and served during the Korean War. 

Lt. Barker was separated from active service in 1954. Gene then worked for several government agencies: The U.S. Army in Hanford, Wash., NASA at Brooks Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, the FAA in Oklahoma City, Okla., and the USPS Training Center in Norman, Okla.?In 1975, Gene and Edith retired to St. Maries, Idaho. Gene was a member of the St. Maries American Legion Post # 25.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, in 2004; and daughter, Vicki Sue, in 1949. 

Eugene is survived by his sons: William Barker, of Helena, Mont., David Barker, of St. Maries, Idaho, and Mark Barker (Joan), of Norman, Okla.?Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries, Idaho, with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating.
