LABRADOR: Poor view of reality

| January 29, 2014 8:00 PM

I write to comment on the Jan. 24 Press article about Congressman Raul Labrador.

Mr. Labrador states that “the rich can take care of themselves,” and don’t need a political party to champion their interests. They have lobbyists for that. He states that it’s the middle and working class people who need the help, and that they will actually “prosper” if the GOP can only implement its policies. Congressman, have you forgotten that the GOP has been running Idaho for the past generation?

Congressman, how do you figure that working families prosper under your policies when any tax breaks always benefit the top 10 percent and major corporations? How do working families prosper by keeping the minimum wage at $7.25 per hour, or by cutting off unemployment benefits to those hardest hit by the recession? You say that you prefer a jobs program. Great, but other than more tax cuts to the wealthy, what’s your program?

Congressman, you state that you know of one employer who can’t find people to work for $12/hour. By using that one example, are you saying that there are plenty of good paying jobs that go unfilled simply because unemployed people are lazy? Do you honestly believe that people are unemployed, or poor, because they prefer to be?

Congressman, why is it that your party seems to believe that the wealthy have too little, and therefore society needs to give them more? Yet, poor families have too much, and we therefore need to take something away from them?
