Donald J. Karl, 88

Donald J. Karl, 88, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2014.

Don was born in Detroit, MI, in 1925 and moved to Grand Rapids, MI, in 1937. He served his country during WWII on the Navy vessel USS Irwin. In 1949 he married the love of his life, SuzAnn, and shortly after received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. He started working for the Federal Housing Administration (HUD) early in his career, which brought him from Grand Rapids to Chicago, Ill, in 1964 and to Phoenix, AZ, in 1970. He worked at HUD in Phoenix from 1970 until he retired in 1982, when he was acting director.

After retirement, Donald enjoyed summers on his boat in Coeur d'Alene. He loved his family, fishing, sports, dancing and singing. He was the "life of the party," and everybody's friend.

He will be missed by his wife of 64 years, SuzAnn, his six children, 11 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Private service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the ALS association.
