Irva Richardson, 94

| January 22, 2014 1:18 PM

Irva Richardson, born January 1920, was raised in a farming and orchard community in the state of New Jersey along with her 18 brother and sisters. Irva was the oldest girl with only two remaining sisters. She passed on to her Lord and Savior's loving arms January 16, six days after her 94th birthday. She was a mom of four, grandmom of 12, great-grandmom of 33, and a great-great grandmom to 24. She was loved by all family and friends.

Irva met a handsome Marine named Robert. They fell in love and married in 1939. Together they raised four children. She lost Robert suddenly July of 2012, after 73 years of marriage. With that loss, life really challenged her. She fought back with her usual sassiness and spunk. Her first adventure was a flight all the way across country, her very first flight ever at the age of 92. When arriving in Idaho her only complaint was that the flight was too short. She loved it! Excitement and joy filled her as she was embraced by the huge family waiting to meet her. What a reunion! She lived for every hug and kiss from each and every one of them.

Idaho and family gave Irva new life. She didn't waste a minute without enjoying every sunny day. All of Idaho's beauty that we as a family had grown to love brought new joy as seen through her weary eyes. A walk by our beautiful lake, a view of the waterfowl, a single found feather, and a crystal clear blue Idaho sky as far as an eye could see was what she lived for. As much as she loved all of the nature in her new home, she loved the people. Many strangers would stop their walks to chat with her, and even share their pets. Her words were always, "I can't believe how friendly everybody is!" Thank you, Coeur d'Alene, for your giving, generous spirit.

As her health declined, Irva moved from her daughter's home to The Courtyard Assisted Living. A place she called "home." In her final time with us life was made much better for her by the constant love, care and attention by the Courtyard staff and North Idaho Hospice. Words are not enough for us as a family to thank you, but we do. Thank You.

A gathering is planned for family and friends come spring. Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
