CORE: Here it comes, voters
I read the letters in the Opinion column and the articles citing quotes by Goedde and the editorial by The Press concerning the CORE proposal with much frustration. It looks like this is going to be pushed in the faces of those who object to it regardless of whether it’s good for their kids or not!
This is a FEDERAL program. Since when has anything run by the Federal government been good for the schools? And why are our politicians (and The Press) so eager to roll with it?
What’s so attractive about it besides pouring more money into the system to “try” out another program that may not work anyway. Look at the criticism the No Child Left Behind program has taken. Once again — Federal.
Some of the states, including apparently Idaho, seem eager to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve seen some reports on TV quoting excerpts from the textbooks that are actually changing history. Is anyone critiquing these textbooks besides the parents who care? Apathy is rampant, so the “authorities” reign.
Maybe it’s time to make a list for the elections in November.
