Curtis N. Johnson Sr., 90

| January 14, 2014 5:32 AM

Our beloved Curtis passed away on January 9, 2014, at the age of 90.

Curtis was born on December 27, 1923, to Leonard and Nina (Danielson) Johnson in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. He was always known as a devoted son and loving brother. After he joined the Navy, he was sent to Camp Farragut boot camp in 1942. While in the Navy, he saw the world: Suva Fiji, England, Germany, Italy, Norway, Hawaii, and California.

In 1948, in Great Lakes, Illinois, Curtis met his bride-to-be, a WAVE named Hazel Bifoss. They were married on Christmas Day, 1950 in Pellston, Michigan, Hazel's home town. The Navy sent them to San Diego, California, where they raised their family.

After retiring from the Navy in 1962, Curtis worked for Loral Corporation. Soon after their retirement, Curtis and Hazel moved to Post Falls. Curtis enjoyed Hazel's company, traveling, correspondence, reading, and playing cards. He was known for his good humor, loyal friendship, beautiful penmanship, and love of sweets.

He is survived by his two children: Priscilla (Dennis) Foster of Post Falls, Idaho; and Curtis (Janet) Johnson, Jr. of Chula Vista, California; six grandchildren: Taylor Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Isabela Johnson, Austin Drew, Greg Foster, and Sherry Foster; three great grandchildren: Ethan Johnson, Michael Foster, and Tyler Foster; sisters: Bernice, Elizabeth, and Fern; brother, Victor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Joyce, Linda, Phyllis, and Robert; and Hazel, his loving wife of over 60 years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. George Catholic Church in Post Falls, or a donation in Curtis's name to a charity of your choice.
