COLUMN: Job 1 is get it right

| January 12, 2014 8:00 PM

Jimmy Pappas got it wrong again! Tim Bishop introduced H.R. 5622, the Stop Outsourcing and Create American Jobs Act of 2010, and was passed by the “then still Republican held” House of Representatives and Harry Reid refused to take up the bill. So it was the Senate Dem leader who stopped the “anti-outsourcing bill,” not the Republicans.

The Stop Outsourcing and Create American Jobs Act of 2010 (H.R. 5622) is legislation to crack down on overseas tax havens, promote American job creation, and reduce the federal deficit, and it deters corporations from using tax havens to hide assets and create jobs overseas by increasing civil and criminal penalties for illegal transactions involving a tax haven country, such as fraud, false claims and tax evasion. “The bill also bolsters federal revenues by targeting tax evaders and countries that help them cheat,” (a quote by Congressman Bishop). All revenues generated by H.R. 5622 will be applied to reducing the federal deficit. The bill was reintroduced Nov. 3, 2011, with the same Senate stopper by Mr. Reid. If Jimmy made this obvious mistake, what other mistakes might there be in all of the “facts, figures and statistics” which are written in his column Thursday?
