SIGNS: Now serving husbands, wives

| February 28, 2014 8:00 PM

In the Feb. 26 editorial by the Coeur d’Alene Press, it was suggested that a sign be placed stating, “As devout Christians, we refuse to serve anyone —.”

May I remind The Press that such signs that show discrimination have been displayed for years in establishments throughout the United States?

“We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” and “No shirt, no shoes, no service” come to mind.

Now if I want to have lunch downtown, wearing no shoes, and I see the former sign, does it make sense to contest the discrimination or to walk around the corner and have lunch on the sidewalk of a competitor?

Not to sound sarcastic, but only as an example, if a couple owns a bed and breakfast and they feel compelled to follow the words of Jesus, that sodomy and fornication are sins with devastating consequences, regardless as to how the House in Boise votes, does it not stand to reason that rather than endorsing these acts, they should be able to place a sign that reads, “We only serve husbands and wives?”
