GOVERNOR: Just follow the money

| February 26, 2014 8:46 AM

This has been eating at me for a little while now. I wasn’t sure I’d read it correctly the first time. So, last night, I dug through the old copies of the paper and, sure enough, there it was, in the Feb. 1 edition, tucked away in the back pages, an article comparing the fundraising efforts of Republican gubernatorial candidate, Russ Fulcher, to those of Governor Otter. Near the end of the story, was the following, “... Otter, who reported last week he raised $901,000, largely from business and Nevada casino billionaires.”

“Nevada casino billionaires.” Huh? I’ve heard Otter talk about family values, but I didn’t know he meant The Family, you know, La Familia, La Costa Nostra. I thought he was supposed to represent Idaho families. What’s going on here? Just throw the cash in the war chest, boys! Your money’s as good as anybody’s. What do these people want? I’m sure they’re not just giving away Mecca? How can it be justified, ethically or morally, for our governor to tout a conservative agenda on one hand while taking cash from Sin City fat cats with the other? The pieces of this jigsaw puzzle just don’t fit together. Why are these heavy hitters so interested in our politics? Is our state for sale? Otter has that straight shootin’ country cowpoke act down to a fine art, but he needs to remember Matt Dillon never went upstairs with Miss Kitty.
