VETERANS: Our duty is to help them

| February 21, 2014 8:00 PM

I have never served in the military, but I can only imagine how hard it would be coming back from something that can completely change your worldview. According to an article in The Press on Sunday, Feb. 16, misconduct is forcing more soldiers out of service.

Now, perhaps on the outside looking in it would be very easy to agree with the fact soldiers should be dismissed for bad behavior, but what about instead of writing them off, more programs are offered to help soldiers returning home? It’s easy enough as a civilian to make choices and have certain behaviors, so even more so we need to support these men and women who have seen far more than most will ever see in a lifetime.

In creating new programs, perhaps it becomes mandatory for soldiers to go through steps to help them transition. Let’s get more people involved in their healing, so not only are soldiers learning ways to cope, but people are also given a chance to invest in lives. Truly caring about our fellow man will become the key to changing the world!
