COINUTS: Victims not happy at all

| February 21, 2014 8:00 PM

Unfortunately, I’m one of Kevin Mitchell’s victims, so therefore have followed all the shenanigans involved in this case from the beginning. Before I get into my rant, I’d like to commend David Cole and the Coeur d’Alene Press for presenting the facts involved with CoiNuts, along with the Coeur d’Alene police and the Sheriff’s Department and the criminal investigators for their diligence.

I’m shocked, but not surprised that Judge Haynes, Prosecuting Attorney Barry McHugh, Deputy Attorney General Guyon, along with the FBI and IRS have decided to sweep the Kevin Mitchell case under the rug. I may have read too many John Grisham novels, but this action looks similar to collusion of legal beagles in a rural Mississippi court backroom scheme.

No wonder Kevin is eager to “negotiate” the court-ordered $743,000 the court claims he owes 18 victims (in reality, he owes millions to hundreds of victims). How do you negotiate when one party wants $743,000 and the other party offers zero dollars? Zero dollars wins!

I’ve nagged most of the above parties about their lack of interest in this case. The FBI is indifferent (interstate trade?), the IRS does not want to pursue stolen income, (how did they convict Al Capone?). The prosecuting attorney is concerned about proving intent. God forbid, but if I ever get into trouble, I hope the judicial authorities are as sympathetic with me as they are CoiNuts!
