He was born May 28, 1958, to Larry and Dorothy (Bower) Donohoe in Tacoma, Wash. Stewart grew up in Medimont, and graduated from Kootenai High School with the class of 1976. Following graduation, he went to work for his father, at Larry Donohoe Logging, Inc. In the 1980's, Stewart went to work for Crown Pacific in Plummer, ID where he operated a log processor. Then, in the 1990's, Stewart went to work for Denarco Heavy Equipment as a salesman in Woodenville, Wash.

Stewart was very accomplished at this position, where he did everything from Demonstrating, being a mechanic, and selling all types of heavy equipment. Stewart was divorced in 2003.
