Sandpoint High star Levora signs to run at WSU

PULLMAN - Sam Levora, a distance runner from Sandpoint High, was one of three prep seniors to sign a national letter of intent to compete in track and field for Washington State in the 2014-15 seasons, Cougars coach Rick Sloan announced.

Levora has accumulated eight varsity letters as a distance runner at Sandpoint and was a four-time participant in the state 4A cross country championships, with 32nd and fifth-place finishes as a freshman and sophomore, and back-to-back runner-up finishes as a junior and senior. He also competed in the Nike Cross Northwest Regional meets with 17th-place finishes in both 2012 and 2013.

On the track, Levora finished third in both the 1,600 and 3,200 races as a sophomore, and runner-up finishes in both as a junior.

He plans to pursue a history major.

"We are really excited to have Sam run for the Cougs next fall," Cougar cross country coach Tim Riley said. "I feel Sam will fit very well within our culture both athletically and academically and I feel is one of the most talented distance runners to recently come from Idaho."

Also signing are Jonnie Green, a sprinter from Ephrata, Wash., and Zach Smith, a sprinter from Bremerton, Wash.
