WOOD: Needs to be impartial
Sgt. Christie Wood is beginning to sound more like Diane Feinstein every day — do as I say and not as I do — unless, of course, she has agreed to not carry her weapon when she is on the North Idaho College campus. Councilmen Dan Gooken and Steve Adams seem to remember more about the Constitution and the Second Amendment than Sgt. Wood. Don’t police officers still swear to uphold the Constitution when they are sworn in?
When Sgt. Wood appears armed, in uniform and gives her opinion, is she speaking for herself or for the department?
I’ve wondered about the appearance of impartiality. It’s important to a police department that its officers are impartial in the treatment of individuals and organizations. Sgt. Wood’s political activities, in my opinion, do not give the appearance of impartiality.
Regarding the man who was arrested with a weapon on the NIC campus, the first cry from the anti-gun crowd is to disarm everybody. That attitude is definitely not what I would expect from a police officer who respects Second Amendment rights.
