COLUMN: Smith hit the bull's-eye
What a fantastic My Turn article by Robert Smith in last Saturday’s Press.
He hits the nail on the head at every point. Since when did “Political Correctness” become more important than the lives of our kids and ourselves. What a price to pay for “Political Correctness.” How many children at Columbine? How many more at the theater? And why? Because those with guns to stave off these slaughters were 20 minutes or more away, not two minutes.
The key is preparedness of those close by who are armed and trained. As Smith points out, even police and army trained individuals become lawbreakers in these cases rather than lifesaving citizens with these kind of foolish laws.
But, of course, those opposed to our constitutional right to protect ourselves and others would quickly point out, “But what if an innocent is wounded?” And my answer is, “What if dozens more are killed and maimed?”
Our pastor went to a seminar on church safety in regard to possible attacks in our churches. For me, I thank God in the knowledge that on any given Sunday in our church I know of several trained men who are sitting among us and are armed.
