TRAPS: Small win at English Point
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR LETTERS, PHONE CALLS AND WORD OF MOUTH! YOU HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN HAVING THE TRAPS REMOVED FROM ENGLISH POINT!
However, even though that is a small victory, nothing has changed. Any trapper can put a trap at English Point, or on any public land, including Mineral Ridge, Cougar Bay, Cougar Gulch, Canfield Mountain; anywhere that is not owned by the city and is public land. Tubbs Hill is safe.
Your above efforts caused the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and officials of the state to at least look at this as being a possible problem. The wheels of change move slowly, if at all, and the only way to effect change is to let them know how we feel.
I have also learned that these traps must be 5 feet from the center of our trails, which effectively puts them on the trails’ edge. This not only puts your dog in danger, on or off leash, but you, your children, or even your horse. Pretty scary!
The director of Fish and Game in Boise is Virgil Moore, P. O. Box 25, Boise, ID 83707.
Trapping, hunting and fishing are all a way of life here in North Idaho and that is why we live here, to enjoy the outdoors. The only change we are requesting is that we can all be safe to enjoy the beauty here, live and let live.
I am not sure how Fish and Game, who are in charge of trapping, make requirements of the placement of traps, but they do. Please require these traps be placed a safe distance from our public trails. This is a common sense request and should not even need to be asked.
Thank you again for your efforts. Please keep the pressure on until they listen.
