DEER: Artificial turf, anybody?
Here we go scapegoating again!
So Dalton Gardens doesn’t want people to feed deer in their city? Really? You had better spray Round-up herbicide on your lawn then because you already are.
Don’t people understand it’s the easy grazing in mini-meadows (lawns), flower beds, gardens and pastures that “feed” the deer for eight months, and some caring people just want to fill out the calendar the other four months and not starve the deer that “we” unnaturally attracted in the first place?
I had a lawn-free mountain neighbor who tried everything he could to attract deer by feeding them and he was completely unsuccessful. Oh sure, the coyotes, raccoons and skunks loved them, but the deer hung out half a mile away on the nearest mowed mini-meadow lawn.
Most of this nonsense could be avoided by not cramming so many houses, trailers, and apartments into Kootenai County, and especially quit watering yards with potable water.
If you are really serious about the in-town deer population, then an “Astroturf only” ordinance would solve 90 percent of the problem! But that would mean we’re the culprit. We could never admit that.
