PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Viking boys run past Flathead

| December 20, 2014 7:00 PM

* BOYS

KALISPELL, Mont. - It wasn't pretty on defense.

But that offense - that's another story.

Tony Naccarato had 29 points and nine rebounds, leading the Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the Flathead Braves 91-84 on Saturday.

"I'm not quite sure where that came from," said Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad, whose team shot 34 of 62 in the game. "It wasn't either team's best night defensively. It was a fast-paced game. Both teams got a lot of shots up and it ended in high numbers."

Joe Naccarato scored 25 points and Elliott Sparks had 19 points for Coeur d'Alene (5-2), which opens the Coeur d'Alene Inn-vitational on Dec. 29 against Ridgeview (Wash.) at 5:30 p.m. at Rolly Williams Court.

"It was a long bus ride and it felt like we were sitting around for hours," Lundblad said. "We didn't get it going until after halftime and didn't make a lot of good decisions, but we got out of Montana with a win."

POST FALLS - Joey Pfennigs scored a season-high 14 points and Max McCullough added another 14 points, as the Trojans remained undefeated with a nonleague victory over the Bulldogs at The Arena.

"I was pretty happy with our defense," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "We held them without a field goal in the fourth quarter. Pasco's a very athletic team. So it was a good game for us to go full court and their guards challenged us with their athleticism."

Post Falls (7-0) led by six after the first quarter and went on a 24-8 second-quarter run to put the game out of reach.

"Blake McLean and Wyatt Millsap with their ball pressure, it broke the game open," McLean said. "It was a team effort and we just wore them down."

Dalton Thompson had six rebounds for the Trojans, who play at 1:45 p.m. next Monday against Georges P. Vanier Secondary School of Courtenay, British Columbia, in the Coeur d' Alene Inn-vitational at North Idaho College.

SANDPOINT - Matt Timothy scored 11 points to lead the Bulldogs, who kept things close for a half before falling to the Eagles in nonleague game at Les Rogers Court.

The Bulldogs (2-6) trailed just 27-22 at half, but ice cold shooting proved their undoing, as they would make only one field goal and score eight points in the second half.

"We hung in there until halftime, but the second half was a struggle. We shot very poorly, missed a lot of short shots," said Bulldogs coach Kent Leiss. "Our defense wasn't bad, but we struggled on the offensive end putting the ball in the basket. One basket in the second half and you're not going to win."

Sandpoint faces Columbia River in the opening round of the Lake City Invitational on Dec. 29 at 3:30 p.m. at Lake City High.
