HOMELESS: Not cause to be heartless

| December 17, 2014 8:00 PM

Dec. 10, I went to Albertsons on Ironwood. At the very edge of the east corner of the store an elderly man was sitting on the sidewalk with a sign that read “Hungry Homeless Vet.” He did not say anything as I passed but I turned and asked his situation. He said he was homeless, living in his car and eating some meals at St. Vincent’s.

As I was bringing him a sandwich two employees were telling him he had to leave as his presence was “offensive” to a customer. This man was only sitting with his sign. He was at the very edge of the building a long distance from the store doors.

Why are we so fast to give in to the unreasonable demands of the “offended?” Why do the homeless make us so uncomfortable?

Merry Christmas.
