PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: The road well worth it in Trojans' romp
MINDEN, Nev. - After traveling 851 miles south of Post Falls, the Trojans turned a 10-point lead into a healthy blowout of the host Douglas Tigers.
Max McCullough scored 14 points and Dalton Thompson added 11 points for Post Falls (4-0), which finished the game on a 31-8 run in the fourth quarter in a 74-41 win.
Douglas High, a Division I school with approximately 1,900 students, is 46 miles south of Reno, Nev., and 14 miles south of Nevada's capital city of Carson City.
The Trojans trailed 18-14 after the first quarter, but rebounded to lead 26-22 at halftime.
"I think our depth wore them down," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "In the entire second half, we played much better, with much more focus and we played the style we wanted to play. In the first half, it made the whole trip worthwhile. We learned a lot about ourselves, because of how poorly we played in the first half. These high schools would be in 5A in our state. We came here to get better and we did. We came a long way from home and this trip, we grew a lot as a team."
Post Falls plays Thursday at home against East Valley, before hosting Lakeland in the Prairie Pig spirit game on Friday.
Jake Blakney had nine points and eight rebounds, Luke Anderson grabbed six rebounds and Jack Millsap three steals.
Michael Johnson led Douglas in scoring with 11 points.
