AIRPORT: Runway into the future
I would like to comment on Mr. Jim Olmore’s letter in the Dec. 3 issue of The Press which reflects my opinion of the proposed expansion of the airport, with the exception of his comments pertaining to Greg Delavan’s firing which has yet to be determined as justified.
The future of the airport affects every community in North Idaho, not just Hayden and Coeur d’Alene. I believe that many more large and small planes fly low over my area to approach the airport than did even a year ago, increasing the noise level and potential for accidents involving planes flying over I-90, Highways 41 and 95, as well as the housing developments which have sprung up throughout the area. With Spokane International Airport less than 50 miles away, why do we need to further industrialize our beautiful area? We can never undo the damage caused by expanding our airport. Long freight trains hauling oil and coal are creating too much risk as it is. We aren’t isolated from all the conveniences and benefits we will ever require.
We need public hearings and a chance to vote on this one!
