POSTAL: Avert Pocatello closure

| December 12, 2014 8:00 PM

Since the announcement of the possible closing of the Mail Processing Plant in Pocatello in 2015 by the U.S. Postal Service, many concerned citizens of this area have asked me what they can do to help prevent the closure.

Two websites exist to show your concern about mail delays: www.StopMailDelays.org or contact the Postal Regulatory Commission at www.prc.gov.

Rural Idaho would receive no discounts for delayed mail.

This is more than about local jobs being relocated to some other state; this is about customer service that has to be protected — especially for Idaho.

It will take more than just a few concerned people to stop delaying the mail, it will take a whole community, from local business to state and federal governments to hear our message that service standards must be maintained to provide quality service.

The USPS has earned more than $1 billion in profit from operations this year using no tax money while employing more than 200,000 veterans. Losses “are the result of the ominous pre-funding requirement at $5.6 billion per year, yet have nothing to do with the cost of collecting, sorting and delivering the mail.”
