Obstacles in bike trail between Pullman and Colfax
COLFAX (AP) - Plans to build a 19-mile biking and walking trail between Pullman and Colfax have run into more obstacles.
The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reported the state of Idaho is investigating how a recent court ruling could affect the potential for the former railroad line to turn into trail.
The ruling states that if a rail corridor property was originally obtained as an easement, the control of the land reverts to the underlying property owner.
This is the latest in a series of challenges to the trail, including the high cost of constructing and maintaining it and concerns of neighboring property owners.
The 7-mile Chipman Trail between Pullman and Moscow used to be a railway corridor and now is a popular biking route along the Moscow-Pullman Highway.
The 18-mile Latah Trail runs from Pullman through Moscow and east to Troy, paralleling Highway 8.
