Alta Carol Townsend, 87
Alta Carol Townsend, 87, was born Oct. 17, 1927, to Horace and Alta Bray in Kettle Falls, Wash. She passed Nov. 25, 2014, due to complications from viral pneumonia and kidney failure.
Carol, as she was known, moved to Spokane as a young child and was a longtime Spokane resident. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, worked several jobs after graduating from high school and met and married Warren Wallace Miller (deceased) in 1948. Her marriage to Warren gave her daughter Christina and son Michael.
After Carol and Warren divorced, she met and married Richard "Dick" James Townsend and gained step-daughter Becky and stepson Rick. Job considerations caused Carol, Dick, Christina and Michael to move to Miles City, Mont.
It was in Miles City that Carol began her long career in government service with the Social Security Administration. After several years in Miles City, job requirements took Carol and Dick to Billings, Mont., and then on to San Jose, Calif. They lived in the Bay Area for several years until they retired - Carol from the Social Security Administration, and Dick from Ford Aerospace.
They moved to Coeur d'Alene for their idyllic retirement where they lived for many years. Carol was active for many years in the 4 C's Choral singing group. She also enjoyed playing golf, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Carol is survived by her husband, Dick; daughter Christina (Mark) and granddaughter Elisabeth (Chris); son Michael (Linda) and granddaughter Jordan; stepdaughter Becky (Mike) and their three sons Joseph, Joshua, and Michael; and stepson Rick (Tari) and their children Jason, Chris and Melanie; and by numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. In addition, Carol is survived by her favorite pinochle partners: Sister-in-law Donna Libengood and her husband Paul.
Carol will be laid to rest at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d'Alene has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Carol's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
