PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Schoening carries Sandpoint to title

| December 6, 2014 7:00 PM

PENDLETON, Ore. - Madi Schoening continued a torrid stretch of lighting up opponents, making a stellar 19 of 19 attempts from the free throw line en route to 31 points, leading Sandpoint to a 60-55 win over Clarkston in the championship game of the Pendleton tournament on Saturday night.

Schoening, who is averaging 29 points in the first five games of the season and recently went 11 of 11 from the field, also pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (4-1), who continue to find ways to win, this time doubling up the Bantams 18-9 in the fourth quarter. Elani Williams posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards, Grace Kirscher made two 3-pointers and stiff fourth quarter defense was crucial.

"I thought that ourdefense and attacking the basket in the fourth quarter werekeys to the win," said Sandpoint coach Duane Ward, whose team also came back in a win Friday against Pendleton. "All of the girls played hard this weekend and showed mental toughness in coming back from deficits in both games against strong opponents."
