Booth, Wilson, Kornoely go 1-2 at Cliff Keen invite
LAS VEGAS - The North Idaho College wrestling team, while impressive in matches, failed to advance any wrestlers into the championship bracket of the 33rd annual Cliff Keen Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"Overall, I was really pleased with the outcome of some of the guys," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "Tyler Booth was in his consolation match until the very end, and we had some others that battled with some big name teams. I think they came away with some confidence in themselves."
Booth (149 pounds), Deondre Wilson (141) and Taylor Kornoely were the lone NIC wrestlers to win a match, each finishing 1-2.
"To come down here and get a win against a regional opponent (Western Wyoming on Thursday), I thought all in all the guys wrestled well."
NIC will host national runner-up Northwest College of Powell, Wyo., next Friday at 7 p.m.

SPOKANE - The Timberwolves had a chance with eight seconds left to tie or take the lead, but could not quite finish the deal in a nonleague game.
West Valley led by 10 with 3 minutes left in the game, before the Timberwolves clawed back to trim the deficit to 52-50.

West Valley shot 36 free throws and Lake City shot eight, and the Timberwolves did not attempt a free throw in the second half.
"The difference was we hit a dry spell, we struggled to score at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth," Reed said. "It's early and we have a lot of stuff to work on. But we battled back."
Senior wing Joe Pasquale led Lake City (2-0) with 15 points. Nick Hancock finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
