Cardinals roll in Vegas
LAS VEGAS - The North Idaho College wrestling team, ranked second in the latest NJCAA poll, had to forfeit a couple weights in Thursday's dual against 17th-ranked Western Wyoming.
The other guys in the lineup stepped up when it counted, helping the Cardinals beat the Mustangs of Rock Springs 31-12 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Sophomore Tyler Booth of Post Falls won by pin at 149 pounds, and Tyler McLean won at 157 for NIC (6-1).
Freshmen Jordan Cooks (165) and Dajour Reese (174) had their flight delayed from the airport after spending Thanksgiving in Phoenix, and did not arrive in Las Vegas until after the dual had concluded.
"It was a good dual for us," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "Having to give up those weights was tough, but our guys had to pick it up and wrestled hard the entire seven minutes."
NIC competes in the 33rd annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational today at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
