Stan grew up as "Dwayne" in Arizona, New Mexico and Los Angeles, Calif. He was born on a dairy farm in Miami, Ariz., in 1937. He embraced modern technology and loved to explore his natural surroundings. He attended Hawthorne High School, El Camino College and graduated with a degree in Architecture from USC in 1961. He did his graduate work at the University of California at Los Angeles until 1963 and was then the youngest licensed architect in the state of California.

He designed and developed projects including the redesign of Los Angeles airport for the first 747 airplanes which he continued to do internationally.
From 1974 to 1994, Stan founded DHA Construction Services as a joint venture company in conjunction with another development firm in Santa Monica, Calif. During that period, he designed, constructed and marketed residential condominiums, single family homes, custom homes, gated communities and a beach front project in Long Beach, Calif. He received nine awards from LA area cities for architectural excellence.
In 1994 Stan relocated to Coeur d'Alene where he developed and built a multifamily condominium project called The Village. At the same time, he worked as a Forensic Architect reviewing building failures from the California earthquake, ascertaining the cause of failure and outlining the methods of cure.
Stan was married to Mary Wallulis Cowan on Aug. 24, 2008, in Coeur d'Alene.
His hobbies included rappelling, tennis, skiing, sailing, traveling, wine tasting, reading and backgammon.
Stan and his wife Mary were able to share traveling together to South America, Europe, the Mediterranean, and enjoyed sailing in the British Virgin Islands and cruising through the Galapagos Islands.
He participated in the local Eagles club with his son, Steven Huffaker. He was also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) during his career.
