Meyer, Martin 'Marty' J., 52

Jan. 29, 1962 - Nov. 14, 2014

It is with great sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved "Mart Man" - Marty Meyer.

Marty was born to Grace Herrera and Joe Meyer in Napa, Calif., in 1962. He joined siblings Sheryl, Lisa and Greg. His youth was spent in the Bay Area where his father owned a bar in San Francisco.

Joe moved his family to southern Idaho around 1973 when he began his plumbing career, followed by a move to Coeur d'Alene in 1976, and a return to Boise when Joe Meyer became Bureau Chief for the State of Idaho Plumbing Division.

Marty graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1980 and followed in his father's path becoming an apprentice journeyman and master plumber. Marty's greatest adventure was living and working in Antarctica at McMurdo Research Station.

Upon returning to the Coeur d'Alene area around 1982, Marty went to work for RL Jacobs Plumbing where he worked for many years. It was here he met his best friend and brother, Jeff Jacobs. Many adventures, some memories, good times shared.

In 2000, Marty made a career move. When his father Joe retired as Idaho Bureau Chief, Marty was hired as a state plumbing inspector. He held this position for 13 1/2 years, till the time of his passing. Also in 2000 Marty reconnected and married his high school friend, Leslie D. Custer, honorably accepting Nikita as his daughter.

Marty, Leslie and Nikita welcomed little Joe into the world on Nov. 7, 2003. A Mini-Mart was born: Joseph Martin Meyer.

Our family has been happy. Marty's career was stable, then this past summer his health began declining. Many tests later Marty was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We spent eight wonderful weeks loving one another; husband, wife, son and daughter. Blessed memories we will cherish.

Marty's passing was unexpected. Surgery left his body too weak to recover. He was removed from life support and passed away at 4:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Hospice House. His wife Leslie was by his side.

Rest in Peace, my love.

A memorial celebration will be held for Marty at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the DBS Building, 1250 Ironwood Drive, Coeur d'Alene (corner of Northwest Boulevard and Ironwood).

Memorial contributions may be made out to Marty and/or Joseph Meyer, Wells Fargo Bank. Funds will be used for Marty's critical care costs and/or for Joseph's care.
