| August 30, 2014 9:00 PM

HAYDEN - Families, recreational runners and serious racers are invited to participate in the Hayden Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K race on Oct. 18.

The Saturday race has Hayden Lake as the centerpiece and, according to a press release, the marathon is believed to be the only one in the country that takes racers completely around a lake.

"Last year's race was extremely well received and we got rave reviews," said Race Director Nancy Lowery.

According to the release, the course is challenging and full of plenty of lake and mountain views.

All three races begin and end at Honeyscukle Beach. The marathon begins at 7 a.m., the half marathon at 8 a.m. and the 10K at 9 a.m.

Participants in the marathon must be at least 18 years old, half marathon runners must be at least 14 years old and the 10K is open to anyone 10 years and older.

Those interested in the event can register at www.haydenlakemarathon.org. Early registration prices are $25 for the 10K, $55 for the half marathon and $75 for the marathon. A shirt is included in the price of registration and prices will increase on Oct. 5.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hayden Chamber of Commerce, the Coeur d'Alene High School Cross Country team and the Hayden Senior Center.
