A busy Labor Day weekend

Spirit Lake and St. Maries have Labor Day weekend activities planned if you're scratching for something to do.

Spirit Lake's annual parade starts at 11 a.m. on Monday at Third and Maine. Entries will form a line at Third and New Hampshire starting at 10:30 a.m. There is no registration.

After the parade, there will be kids games, vendors and music at City Park.

On Sunday, bicyclists can participate in a 25-mile ride to Spirit Lake from Mount Spokane. The cost is $40 and participants will meet at 7 a.m. at Spirit Lake's City Park for breakfast. The cost also includes a shirt, a bus ride to the top of the mountain, refreshments and a group photo.

There will also be a car show at City Park on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and kids games from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 1 p.m., a utility task vehicle (UTV) and other prizes will be raffled to benefit the construction of Fireside Park.

St. Maries is hosting its annual Paul Bunyan Days in recognition of the community's timber heritage.

Today's agenda includes the Karen Ebert Memorial 5K fun run and walk at 9 a.m. at St. Maries High School and junior olympics at City Park starting at 10 a.m.

There will be music, food booths, a carnival and sidewalk sales throughout the day. A low-aerial fireworks show starts at 9 p.m.

There will be logging competitions for all ages today through Monday at the city pool.

Sunday's highlights include a breakfast at the Eagles Lodge from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., carnival and food booths all day, a quilt show at Heyburn Elementary from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and an auction at the football field at noon.

There will be a fireworks extravaganza on Sunday at 9 p.m. at City Park. The theme is "Circus, Circus."

Earl Wear and Haywire will perform from 4-8 p.m. at City Park and again after the fireworks.

On Monday, a parade will be held on Main at 10 a.m. The carnival and booths will be open in the afternoon.
