McEUEN PARKING: Time to seek solutions

| August 29, 2014 9:00 PM

So there seems to be a problem with the parking structure at our new park. Not surprised because of the open design. I hope the City Council plans to really solve the problem.

First, pass whatever ordinance is necessary for the police to have something to work with.

Second, start planning now for roll down gates for the undercover area. On ordinary nights have a set time to roll them down. On special event nights, maybe later. If the park is to be used by all the citizens and the visitors to the area, nothing less will do. I don’t see the city paying employees (at health hazard rates) to wash out the covered parking area every morning — this is a potential health risk to the public in more ways than one. I dread to think of what it will be like when winter comes if the efforts do not go far enough.

This parking area could become a homeless mecca if this is not snipped in the bud. The Press reports about all the time that the people in this community expend to help those in need in this city and county. Let’s keep the park safe for everyone, but not as a housekeeping venue for the less fortunate.
