| August 28, 2014 9:00 PM

SPOKANE - Austin Slater smashed a three-run home run in the top of the third inning on Wednesday in Northwest League baseball, and that was all the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes needed in a 3-2 win over the Spokane Indians in front of 5,427 fans at Avista Stadium.

With four games left in the second half of the regular season, Spokane (13-20 second half) is 4 games behind Vancouver, which is 17-16.

Spokane took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, after Diego Cedeno hit a single to drive in Eduward Pinto.

Spokane starting pitcher Richelson Pena took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits, while he struck out eight against Salem-Keizer (19-14).

The teams play the fourth of a five-game series tonight at 6:30 at Avista Stadium.
