Event raises $145,000

COEUR d'ALENE - Thunder and lightning couldn't keep a benefit for Idaho Youth Ranch's Anchor House from raising $145,000 to fund programs for at-risk youth and their families.

At nearly the last minute, the second Wine, Women & Shoes event - originally booked on the lawn at Hayden Lake Country Club - was in danger of being canceled due to the weather.

That's when The Coeur d'Alene Resort intervened. With just 48 hours' notice, The Resort provided an alternative venue for 420 guests and dozens of vendors and volunteers.

Wine, Women & Shoes festivities included a marketplace filled with wares from local and national vendors, premium wines from vintners across the country, a live auction and a fashion show presented by local boutiques. There was a performance by the "shoe guys," volunteers from the Coeur d'Alene community who acted as roving hosts, making sure the women attending were pampered and entertained.

The evening's featured speaker, Jolyn Canty, gave a testimonial about how the Idaho Youth Ranch had changed her life by connecting her with her son, Timothy, and helping the family navigate the adoption process. Canty's business, Nothin' Bundt Cakes, was also an event sponsor.

Idaho Youth Ranch operates Anchor House for teenage boys struggling with substance abuse, family counseling for positive solutions to family challenges, and adoption services for both adoptive and birth parents.
