• Boise mayor tabs 22 students for city positions

BOISE - Nearly two-dozen Boise high school students are getting a little extra civics homework this year.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter has appointed 22 students to serve on various city boards, commissions and committees over the course of the school year.

Some of the high schoolers will serve on the airport, arts and history, parks and recreation and planning and zoning commissions, or on design review and historic preservation committees.

• Interior official to visit national fire center

BOISE - The deputy secretary of the Department of the Interior is expected to visit the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise on Tuesday.

Mike Connor will meet with leaders of the federal interagency fire team to get an update on current wildfires, the cost of fighting wild land fires and the changing climate.

Connor is also expected to push President Barack Obama's budget proposal for next year, which would budget fire suppression costs the same way that other natural disaster responses are budgeted.
